Start from the laundry not the room

The towel spends more time in the laundry than in the guest's hands. Wash temperature, chemistry and drying cycle do more damage than guests do, so the specification should be built around the laundry the property actually runs.

Weight against drying time

A 500 GSM towel feels better than a 400 GSM towel and takes noticeably longer to dry. In a property where linen turns daily, that means more energy per cycle and a larger par stock because more towels are in the wash at any moment.

Two-ply yarn extends the replacement cycle

Two-ply constructions such as 21s/2 and 32s/2 shed less and hold pile height longer under repeated washing. The piece price is higher and the replacement interval is longer, which is the trade a purchasing team should price out over a season rather than per order.

Match the stock you already have

New towels rarely match old ones unless the shade is matched deliberately. Send a piece of your current stock so the lab dip is matched against it. Matching a written colour name instead is what produces two visibly different towel pools on one floor.

Let housekeeping approve the sample

Purchasing signs the order, but housekeeping handles the towel every day and will notice a thin hem or a stiff finish immediately. Sending the sample to the property before the order is placed is the cheapest quality control step available.
