The problem with ordinary PVC
PVC insulation performs well electrically and cheaply, but when it burns it produces dense smoke and hydrogen chloride gas. In an enclosed space the smoke blocks the escape route before the fire reaches anyone, and the gas forms an acid that attacks electronics and structures long after the fire is out.
What LSZH does differently
A low smoke zero halogen compound is formulated without halogens, so combustion produces far less smoke and no halogen acid gas. The cable costs more than PVC and the compound is stiffer, which is why it is specified by environment rather than used everywhere.
Where it is specified
Rail vehicles and stations, ships and offshore installations, tunnels, theatres, hospitals, airports and data centres. Anywhere a large number of people evacuate through an enclosed route, or where sensitive equipment would be written off by acid gas.
Specifying an LSZH cord set
The plug and connector do not change. Tell us the destination market for the plug pattern and the appliance end you need, and the cable is substituted for an LSZH construction.
