Liners Are The Recurring Spend

Mantles and bowl liners are the largest repeat line on a crushing plant parts budget. Everything else on the machine is replaced in years. Liners are replaced in months, and the ordering decision comes round often enough that getting it right compounds.

What To Record Before You Ask For A Price

• Crusher size and configuration, Standard or Short Head
• Machine serial number where the plate survives
• What the machine is crushing and the approximate abrasiveness of the feed
• Feed size range and the closed side setting you run
• Hours or tonnes achieved on the last set of liners
• Whether the last set wore evenly or showed a pattern

The last two are the ones most often left out, and they are the two that tell you whether the problem is the liner or the way the machine is being fed.

Reading The Wear Pattern

Even wear across the chamber is what you want. A liner that is worn through at one point while the rest still has life usually points at feed segregation or a feed distributor that is no longer doing its job, rather than at the liner itself.

Photograph the worn set in place before it comes out. It is the cheapest diagnostic available and it costs one minute.

Ordering Ahead Of The Change

1. Track tonnes through the machine rather than calendar weeks.
2. Set a reorder point based on the last two sets, not the last one.
3. Order the mantle and bowl liner together for the same change.
4. Include the feed plate and feed distributor in the inspection when the chamber is open.
