Material Choice Affects How the Piece Ages and Sits in the Space

Stainless steel holds its finish and resists corrosion, making it suitable for long-term outdoor exposure and high-visibility indoor locations. Corten steel is selected when the client wants the surface to change over time, developing a stable rust patina that integrates with the environment. Bronze is used for figurative casting where detail and depth are critical, and fiberglass is chosen for large, lightweight indoor forms that need to be handled easily.

Form Follows Material in Fabrication and Weight

The fabrication route differs by material. Stainless steel is formed by forging plate over a mould, welding two hemispheres, and polishing the weld. Corten steel is shaped similarly but is not polished; its surface evolves naturally. Bronze is cast in a mould, allowing for complex detail, while fiberglass is moulded in a single piece, reducing joints and weight.

Weight and Installation Are Determined by Material

Stainless steel and bronze are heavier, requiring stronger foundations and support structures. Corten steel is lighter than bronze but heavier than fiberglass. Fiberglass is the lightest of the four, allowing for simpler installation, especially in indoor or suspended applications where structural load is a concern.

Finish Is Applied After the Form Is Complete

All materials can be finished in mirror polish, brushed finish, or painted. Mirror polish reflects the surroundings and is used for high-visibility pieces. Brushed finish reduces glare and hides handling marks. Painting removes reflection and allows for colour matching to a design scheme. The finish is applied after the form is complete and before packing.

Size Is Customizable Across All Materials

The workshop produces pieces in standard sizes such as 150 cm, 200 cm, 240 cm, 280 cm, 300 cm, and 500 cm, but all are made to any size on request. The production time is 35 to 45 days depending on the piece, and the size does not change the material’s behaviour in the environment.

Delivery and Protection Are Built Into the Process

All pieces are packed in a wooden case and shipped Factory Direct with Door to Door Delivery. A polished surface cannot be repaired on site, so the crate is part of the product. The wooden case protects the finish during transit and ensures the piece arrives ready to install.
