The height of a sculpture must be chosen based on where it will stand. These sizes are not suggestions—they are proven placements that work in real environments.

Viewing Distance and Sightlines Matter

A sculpture that looks balanced in a photograph can appear too small or too large when viewed from the ground. The distance from which people will see the piece determines how large it must be. At 10 meters away, a 150 cm sculpture may disappear; at 3 meters, a 300 cm piece may dominate the space. Always consider the sightline from the most common viewing point.

The Base Is Part of the Height

The base of a sculpture is not just a support—it is part of the visual mass. The base must be designed to match the scale of the piece and the surface it stands on, whether stone, concrete or grass.

Why a Photograph Can Mislead

A photograph taken from close range with a wide-angle lens makes a sculpture look larger than it is. A 150 cm piece can appear to be 200 cm in a photo. When installed, it may seem too small for its space. Always compare the actual size to the environment at eye level, not through a lens.

Material and Finish Affect Perceived Scale

A mirror-polished surface reflects the surroundings and can make a sculpture appear larger than it is. A brushed finish or painted surface reduces reflection and can make the same piece seem smaller. Choose the finish based on how the sculpture should read in the space, not just on appearance in a photo.
