UN38.3 - transport

UN38.3 is a transport safety standard for lithium batteries. It governs whether a shipment can move by air or sea and what documentation the carrier needs. It says nothing about grid compliance. Our battery shipments are packed and documented to it as standard.

IEC62933 and IEC62619 - system and cell safety

IEC62933 addresses electrical energy storage systems; IEC62619 addresses the safety of secondary lithium cells and batteries for industrial use. These are the references most commonly cited by European project specifications.

UL9540 - North American systems

UL9540 covers energy storage systems and equipment for the North American market, and is normally what an authority having jurisdiction asks for there. Confirm the requirement with the AHJ before specifying, because local adoption varies.

CE marking

CE marking indicates conformity with the applicable European directives - for inverters and storage equipment that typically includes the Low Voltage Directive. It is a declaration of conformity, not a performance rating.
