Natural Loofah Is a Plant-Based Exfoliant

The loofah used in our bath products is derived from the dried fibrous skeleton of the Luffa cylindrica gourd. It grows on vines and is harvested when mature, then cleaned and dried. The resulting material has a porous, open-cell structure that traps water and lather, and provides gentle to medium exfoliation depending on the density of the mesh. It is naturally biodegradable and fully compostable after use.

Ramie and Hemp Mesh Offer Durable, Breathable Texture

Ramie and hemp are both bast fibres from plants grown in China. They are processed into fine mesh sheets that are strong, moisture-wicking and resistant to mildew. Ramie has a smoother surface than hemp and feels softer on the skin, while hemp has a slightly coarser texture and provides more friction. Both are naturally antimicrobial and dry quickly, reducing the risk of bacterial growth in humid environments.

Sisal Provides Stiff, Long-Lasting Exfoliation

Sisal is a coarse fibre from the Agave plant, traditionally used in rope and matting. In bath products, it is used in tightly woven forms that deliver firm exfoliation. It is highly durable and retains its shape through repeated use. Sisal is not soft, so it is best suited for body scrubbing on areas like elbows and heels, and not recommended for facial use.

Bamboo Handles with Flax Straps Combine Strength and Softness

Bamboo is a fast-growing, renewable resource used for the handles of brushes. It is naturally smooth, lightweight and resists warping. The bristles are attached with flax, a plant-based fibre that is strong and biodegradable. The flax strap allows for slight flexibility, which reduces pressure on the skin during use. This combination is ideal for body brushes that need both durability and gentle contact.

Konjac Sponges Are Soft, Biodegradable and pH Neutral

Konjac sponges are made from the root of the Amorphophallus konjac plant. They are soft when dry and expand to a gentle, gel-like texture when wet. They are naturally pH neutral and suitable for sensitive skin. The sponge dissolves completely in soil within 90 days and leaves no microplastic residue. It is used primarily for facial cleansing and is not intended for body exfoliation.

Exfoliation Strength Ranges from Soft to Stiff

Loofah and ramie are soft to medium exfoliators, ideal for daily use on the body. Hemp is medium to firm, suitable for rougher skin areas. Sisal is firm to stiff and best for targeted scrubbing. Konjac is the softest of all and is used only for facial cleansing. When building a gift set, pair these materials by function: konjac for face, loofah or ramie for body, sisal for feet, and bamboo brush for full-body cleansing.

Drying and Hygiene Performance Varies by Material

Ramie and hemp dry quickly and resist mildew. Loofah dries well if hung in a ventilated area but can retain moisture if left in a damp towel. Sisal is slow to dry and should be kept dry between uses. Konjac must be rinsed and hung to dry after each use. All materials are naturally antimicrobial and do not require chemical treatments. We recommend storing each item in a well-ventilated space after use.
