200 Series Precision Stainless Steel Strip
Manganese bearing austenitic stainless strip, 0.05 to 1.0 mm, slit 5 to 1250 mm.
What This Grade Range Is For
200 series stainless replaces part of the nickel in an austenitic structure with manganese and nitrogen. It stays non magnetic and formable, and it costs less than 300 series because it leans less on nickel. That makes it the right answer for parts that need a stainless appearance and indoor durability rather than chemical resistance. We supply it from 0.05 mm to 1.0 mm, in tempers from annealed to full hard, and in 2B, BA and 2H surfaces.
Specifications
| Quality Designation | 200 series |
| Temper | Annealed to full hard |

Ranges as supplied. Exact grade within the range is confirmed against your application.
Key Benefits
- Lower and steadier cost than 300 series because it depends less on the nickel price
- Non magnetic in the annealed condition, like the 300 series it substitutes for
- Available down to 0.05 mm, so it suits thin decorative and light structural parts
- Slit from 5 mm, which removes edge scrap on narrow stamped parts
Problems It Solves
- 300 series pricing moves with nickel and makes an indoor part hard to quote for a year
- A ferritic 400 series substitute is magnetic and does not draw as deeply
- Narrow parts are blanked from wide coil and the edge is scrapped
Who It Is For
- Appliance manufacturers moving cost out of visible but sheltered parts
- Stampers producing high volume indoor hardware
- Kitchenware producers forming shallow drawn bodies
Application Scenarios
- Indoor appliance trim and fascia panels
- Kitchenware and hollowware bodies
- Light gauge clips, spacers and brackets in dry service
- Decorative profiles and edging
Technical Features
- Austenitic structure with manganese and nitrogen substituting for part of the nickel
- Work hardens faster than 300 series, so the temper choice matters more
- Supplied in 2B for coated or hidden faces, BA for visible faces, 2H at the hard tempers
How This Material Reaches You
Materials
- 200 series austenitic stainless steel
Quality Control
- Thickness checked across the strip width, not only at the edge
- Slit width and edge condition checked on the recoiler
- Surface inspected against the ordered finish before release
Customization Options
- Slit width to your mult
- Temper selected against your bend radius
- Coil inner diameter and maximum coil weight set to your decoiler
How It Compares With The Alternatives
| Compared With | What Changes |
|---|---|
| 300 Series Stainless Strip | 300 series resists chlorides and food acids far better. Choose 200 series only where the part stays indoors and dry. |
| 400 Series Stainless Strip | 400 series is ferritic and magnetic and costs less again, but it will not draw as deeply. 200 series keeps the austenitic forming behaviour. |
Getting The Specification Right First Time
- Confirm the service environment is dry and indoors before substituting for 300 series
- Specify the temper against the tightest bend radius on the part, not against the flat sections
- Ask for BA if any face of the finished part is visible without further coating
- State the coil inner diameter and maximum weight your decoiler accepts
What to Include in Your Enquiry
- The part and how it is formed, including the tightest bend radius
- The service environment and expected design life
- The strip width your die or roll former actually needs
- Coil inner diameter and maximum coil weight your decoiler accepts

Finish is specified in the same breath as grade and temper, and getting it wrong is expensive because it is only visible once the part is formed.
