Process
From Requirement To Completed Job
Assessment
Decide what area you are treating and what access you have. Open flat deck, corners and welds, and vertical structure each need a different tool.
Tool selection
Deck scalers for open area, needle scalers for corners and welds, descaling chain machines for pipework and structure. Pneumatic where service air is run, electric where a suitable supply exists.
Supply setup
Confirm the air coupling standard or the voltage and frequency before the tool is ordered. This is where most delivered tools fail to go into service.
Preparation
Blow down and vacuum loosened scale and dust. A pneumatic vacuum cleaner keeps scale out of accommodation and machinery spaces.
Detail work
Wire wheel, cup and end brushes finish the areas the machines cannot reach.
Protection
Crew on a long descaling campaign need anti-vibration gloves, goggles, helmets and harnesses issued at the same time as the tools.
Reorder
Needles, chains and brushes are consumables. Order them with the machine and again before the next campaign.
