Start With The Bunk Not The Catalogue

Cabin textiles are the one store group where a measurement taken on board saves more money than any negotiation. Marine bunks are not domestic beds. Sheets listed at 1.37 x 2.3 mtr and at 1.8 x 2.5 mtr cover most arrangements, but which of those fits your cabins is a question only the ship can answer.

Measure a bunk in each cabin class — crew, officer, owner's — before ordering, and record the size against the catalogue code.

Fibre Choice Is A Laundry Decision

Cotton sheets are comfortable and launder well but need the laundry cycle a ship can actually run. On blankets, the catalogue lists both 100% wool and 100% acrylic in camel colour. Wool holds warmth and shape longer; acrylic costs less, launders more aggressively and suits a high turnover crew.

Neither is the right answer in general. The right answer depends on how many times the item goes through the machine in a year.

Towels Are Specified By Weight

The towel sheet lists gram weights alongside sizes: bath towels at 70 x 110 cm and 350 g, bath face towels at 35 x 90 cm and 130 g, sweat towels at 30 x 76 cm and 40 g. Gram weight is the durability figure. A towel bought on size alone, without the weight, is the one that comes back from the laundry thin after a season.

Non-Skid Sheeting Is Bought By The Run

Non-skid sheeting is listed in fixed roll widths and lengths — 600 mm and 800 mm widths, 30 mtr rolls, in 1.5 mm and 2 mm thicknesses. Measure the alleyway, galley and control room runs before ordering rather than after, because part rolls are wasteful and joins in a walking surface are a trip point.
