The Challenge

Project context

The targeted reinforced concrete stormwater culverts could not be taken out of service during the project — Singapore experiences frequent monsoon-season rainfall, and bypass pumping at the required flow rates would have been operationally impossible. The culvert cross-sections varied between rectangular box and circular geometries, with diameters from DN1500 up to DN2400.

Our solution

Huatao supplied PVC-U spiral-wound liner profile with double-interlock T-rib structure, paired with our underground winding equipment. The live-flow installation capability of spiral winding allowed rehabilitation to proceed during normal stormwater flow conditions. The T-profile structural design provided exceptional extensibility and toughness, and the recyclable PVC material met Singapore environmental compliance requirements.

Outcomes

  • 720 meters of large-diameter culvert rehabilitated under live flow
  • Zero bypass pumping required across 9-week project
  • Mixed rectangular and circular cross-sections handled by single liner system
  • PVC-U structural liner with 50+ year corrosion resistance
  • Project completed before monsoon season onset
  • Smooth interior finish improved hydraulic capacity post-installation
