Export Packing and Lead Times for Small Metal Hardware
How hardware is counted, bagged and cartoned, and which lead time applies to which kind of order.
Count, Do Not Weigh
Small hardware is often shipped by weight, which is how a retail set arrives one piece short. Goods here are counted, bagged and cartoned against the order's own packing list, and retail sets are packed to a confirmed piece count.
Retail Set Formats
Curtain ring sets are packed 12 pieces per set with 50 pieces per carton. Confirm the set count and the bag or carton format before printing artwork, because the artwork is far harder to change than the packing.
Bulk Fastener Packing
Screws are packed either as 25 kg bulk in a carton or bag, or as 1 kg boxes with 25 boxes to a carton and then palletised. Which one you want depends on whether the line or the kit packer receives them.
Which Lead Time Applies
Stock goods can leave within one day. Normal goods take 2 to 10 days. General orders are quoted at 15 to 20 days. Fully customised goods take 25 to 35 days, and custom pullers and sliders take 7 to 15 days after sample approval.
Freight
Samples and small orders go by express with DHL, TNT, UPS or FedEx. Production quantities go by air or sea. Because hardware is dense and small, sea freight is usually the sensible choice above a few cartons.
