Bed Slat Supply To A Frame Factory

An application scenario built from the factory's own bed slat photographs.

The Challenge

A bed programme running two model tiers, where the commercial models need a load rated, certified slat and the entry models need a slat that does not break the cost target.

Customer Pain Points

  • Slats breaking at knots and coming back as warranty claims
  • Dimensions drifting between batches and jamming assembly
  • Retailers demanding FSC documentation
  • Slat cost squeezing the entry model margin

What Was Specified

FSC certified birch LVL slats supporting up to 300kg on the commercial models, laminated poplar on the entry range, both cut to the frame drawing with end profiling and bundled to suit the assembly line.

The Result

Two slat grades from one supplier, each cut to the same frame drawings.

Illustrative application scenario. No client name or project is claimed here.

Manufacturing

How Work Like This Is Built

Take the frame drawings and slat counts

Geometry belongs to the frame, not the price list.

Width, thickness, length, spacing and end detail come from the drawing.

Assign birch or poplar per tier

Load and certification drive the grade.

Birch LVL at 300kg for commercial models, laminated poplar for the entry range.

Cut section and end profile

A slat that will not seat pops out in service.

Ends are profiled for the holder system in use.

Decide flat or cambered

Camber is suspension, not decoration.

Cambered slats are formed by bending and marked crown up.

Agree bundle counts with the line

Repacking on the line is pure cost.

Bundles and labels are packed to suit the assembly sequence.
