Getting the closure right is where containment is won or lost. This is how we work through it with a customer.
Six Steps We Work Through With You
Identify the Container Thread
Metal drums take G2 and G3/4 closures in 2 inch and 3/4 inch. Plastic barrels take 70x6mm, 70x5mm, 56x4mm, 2 inch BSP or 3/4 inch BSP. Jerry cans take DIN51, DIN61 or 42mm.
Choose the Gasket Material
Compatibility between the filled liquid and the gasket is the first check. EPDM, BUNA, PE, EPDM O-rings, NBR, FKM, TPE, silicone and EPE liners are all available across the range.
Decide on Venting
A vented closure is specified where the liquid or the transport conditions build pressure. Jerry can vented closures are offered with D15, D17 or D38 vents, and IBC lids with a 2 inch vented plug.
Decide on Tamper Evidence
Tamper-evident bands on jerry can closures, induction seals on bottle caps, and crimped metal or plastic cap seals over drum closures each give a different level of visible security.
Match the Sealing Tool
Drum closures are torqued with a drum wrench, cap seals crimped with a 2 inch and 3/4 inch crimping tool, and pail lids closed with a 300mm steel pail lid closing tool.
Confirm Colour and Printing
Closure colour and printed logos on cap seals are set last, once the functional specification is fixed.

By checking compatibility between the gasket material and the filled liquid. Tell us the product and we will propose the material.
When is a vented closure needed?
When the liquid or the transport conditions cause pressure to build inside a sealed pack.
Do I need a special tool?
Drum closures need a drum wrench, cap seals need a crimping tool, and pail lids need a pail lid closing tool. All three are supplied in this range.
