SF6 is still the standard insulation and arc-quenching gas in a large installed base of GIS and breakers. It is also a greenhouse gas. Leaving it in the atmosphere is the wrong storage vessel.
Recovery captures inventory the owner already paid for and keeps that inventory out of the air. Reuse is what makes the capture worth the cart. Destruction is the path when the gas is no longer fit for insulation duty — that decision belongs to the owner’s lab, not to this page.
