Dual Source Power Redundancy
Solution

Dual Source Power Redundancy

A second feed is only redundancy if the load transfers onto it faster than it can notice. This is what that design looks like end to end.

Stage By Stage

Where Projects Go Wrong And How We Handle It

Feed Audit

Two feeds are often traced back to the same transformer

We ask for the single line diagram first and confirm the two inlets are genuinely independent.

Rating Selection

Switchgear gets sized on cabinet size instead of measured current

Ratings from 63 A to 400 A per phase are selected on actual per phase load current.

Sequencing

Break before make and priority behaviour are decided too late

Source A is set as priority and SCR transfer is first disconnect then connect, so there is no cross feed.

Build And Test

Transfer timing is assumed rather than measured

Transfer is exercised on both inlets and insulation and withstand tests are recorded before shipment.

Installation

Heat load in the cabinet room is already near the limit

Efficiency of 98 percent or better and fans that only start on over temperature keep added heat small.

FAQ

Questions Buyers Ask

Can the switch sit upstream of a UPS?

Yes. That is a common arrangement, where the switch gives source redundancy and the UPS gives ride through.

What if both sources fail?

A transfer switch selects between sources. Energy storage for a total loss has to come from a UPS or generator.
