A fastener has to match the wheel in two ways at once: the thread has to match the stud or hub, and the seat has to match the shape machined into the wheel.
A cone seat, also called a conical seat, is a straight taper under the nut or bolt head. A ball seat, also called a radius seat, is a curved face.
Wheels are machined for one or the other, and the fastener has to match. MAMA WHEEL lists cone seat on the closed end extra long lug nut, and both ball seat and conical seat across the wheel bolt range.
An open end nut is drilled all the way through, so a stud can pass into and beyond the body. A closed end nut is capped, so the stud has to be short enough to stay inside.
This matters as soon as a spacer or adapter is fitted, because the stud then stands further out. The open end range covers the plain open nut, the bulged open nut and the tunner nut.
A bulged nut flares out below the drive hex, so the seat face covers a wider area of the wheel. Bulged bodies are listed in both open and closed forms.
A tunner nut uses an internal hex drive instead of an external one, which keeps the outside diameter small. That is what lets it fit wheels with narrow lug holes.
Stud-located hubs use a stud pressed into the hub with a nut on the outside. Bolt-located hubs have threaded holes and take a wheel bolt that passes through the wheel into the hub.
Both systems are covered. Wheel studs are listed in M12x1.25, M12x1.5, M14x1.5 and 1/2-20. Wheel bolts are listed in M12x1.25, M12x1.5, M14x1.5, 1/2-20 and 9/16.
Adding a spacer moves the wheel outboard, which changes how much thread is left for the nut or how deep the bolt reaches into the hub. Longer studs or longer bolts are often part of the same order for that reason.
Send the spacer thickness with the vehicle and wheel details so the fastener length can be worked out alongside the spacer. Fitting should be carried out by a qualified technician, and local regulations on wheel and track modifications should be checked before ordering.
FAQ
M12x1.25, M12x1.5 and M14x1.5 across the nut range, with 1/2"-20 on the closed end extra long nut. Studs add 1/2-20, and bolts add 1/2-20 and 9/16.
Look at the machined seat in the wheel lug hole. A straight taper is a cone seat and a curved face is a ball seat.
Often yes, because the spacer moves the wheel outboard and changes the stud engagement. Send the spacer thickness with your fastener enquiry.
Yes. Aluminium alloy lug nuts are listed in M12x1.25, M12x1.5 and M14x1.5.
Once you have the bolt pattern, the centre bore and the thread size, email them across and we will confirm the part.
