How to specify a marine windlass

Send chain diameter first. Star Marine deck machinery covers 12.5 mm to 60 mm AM-2 chain in stainless, aluminum or carbon steel, electric or hydraulic. Then add vessel type (yacht, patrol boat, cargo, supply), single or double gypsy, wrapping drum, voltage (220 / 380 V, 50 / 60 Hz) or hydraulic power pack, and the class society if a product certificate is required.

Electric units can be dual-motor so one motor keeps the windlass working if the other is down. FAT is done before the wooden case is closed. Warranty is one year after arrival at the vessel; some deck-machinery lines list two years on the product card.
