Grade 5 Is The Alloy Behind Every Fastener On This Site

Grade 5 titanium, Ti-6Al-4V under UNS R56400, is the alloy used for all 114 fasteners listed on this site. ASTM B348 specifies a minimum tensile strength of 895 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 828 MPa for it, with a minimum elongation of 10 percent.

Its density of about 4.43 g/cm³ is roughly 44 percent below that of steel, which is the reason a titanium fastener is specified at all. The alloy is non magnetic and carries a stable oxide film that re-forms in air or in water as soon as it is damaged, so it holds up in chloride environments that pit common stainless grades.

Commercially Pure And Palladium Bearing Grades

The commercially pure grades run from Gr.1 through Gr.4, with strength rising and formability falling as the grade number increases. The palladium bearing grades, Gr.7 Gr.11 Gr.16 and Gr.17, carry a small palladium addition and are specified where reducing acid service would attack the unalloyed metal.

High strength alloys

Alpha Beta And Beta Alloys

Beyond Gr.5 and the extra low interstitial Gr.23, we produce Ti 6-2-4-2, Ti 6-2-4-6, Ti 6-6-2, Ti 6-7 and Ti 8-1-1, together with the beta alloys Ti 15-333, Ti 15Mo, Ti 17 and Ti 38-644, the TiMoZrFe TMZF alloy, and NiTi superelastic and shape memory alloys.

ASTM and AWS

Standards

Our titanium products are made to the ASTM B series covering strip sheet and plate, seamless and welded tube, bars and billets, forgings, welding fittings, seamless and welded pipe and wire. For welding we work to AWS A5.16 for electrodes and rods and AWS G2.4 for fusion welding of titanium and titanium alloys.

FAQ

Questions About Titanium

Which titanium grades do you produce
The commercially pure Grades 1 to 4, the palladium bearing Grades 7 11 16 and 17, the alpha beta and beta alloys including Gr.5 Ti 6-4 and Gr.23 Ti 6-4 ELI, plus TiMoZrFe and NiTi superelastic and shape memory alloys. The full table with UNS numbers is above.
What is the difference between Grade 5 and Grade 23
Grade 23 is the extra low interstitial version of the same Ti-6Al-4V alloy, carried under UNS R56407 rather than R56400. The lower interstitial content is specified where fracture toughness and ductility matter more than the last of the strength.
In which forms is titanium available
Flat-rolled and long forms, net-shapes and components, plus ingot billet bar rod wire shapes and rectangles and seamless tubes, flowform parts, precision forgings and machined parts.
Which ASTM standards apply to titanium bar
ASTM B348 covers titanium and titanium alloy bars and billets. B265 covers strip sheet and plate, B338 seamless and welded tube, B381 forgings, B861 seamless pipe, B862 welded pipe and B863 wire.
Do you supply finished titanium fasteners
Yes. 114 sizes of Grade 5 titanium screws and bolts from M4 to M10 are held in stock and listed with dimensions and prices on the products page.
