Overview
Where It Fits
The saucer head is shallow and domed, with the bearing face flared out to a diameter well beyond the shank. That combination gives a low head height and a large contact area at the same time, so the screw can be used against softer materials and thin panels without a separate washer.
Problems It Solves
- Clamping thin panels and soft materials without adding a separate washer
- Low clearance joints where a cap head or a hex head would stand too proud
- Visible assemblies where a clean low head is wanted rather than a tall cylinder
- Corrosive service where a plated steel flange screw would lose its coating at the bearing face
Typical Application Areas
- Motorcycle and bicycle assemblies — brake calipers
- Motorsport and performance vehicles — suspension
- Marine and offshore fittings — deck fittings
- Chemical and process equipment — covers
- Electronics and instruments — housings and mountings near sensors and imaging equipment

Why Titanium For This Joint
Weight
Titanium has a density of about 4.43 g/cm³ against about 7.85 g/cm³ for steel. Swapping a steel fastener for the same size in Ti-6Al-4V removes roughly 44 percent of the mass of that fastener.
Strength
ASTM Grade 5 is specified with a minimum tensile strength of 895 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 828 MPa, so the strength is in the range of a medium strength alloy steel rather than of aluminium.
Corrosion
Titanium carries a stable oxide film that re-forms as soon as it is damaged in air or water. It resists seawater and chloride environments that pit and crevice corrode common stainless grades.
Non magnetic
Titanium and its alloys are non magnetic, which matters around sensors, imaging equipment and magnetically sensitive instruments.

Same head geometry and the same drive, in every length we hold for this thread size.
Comparison
Other Head Styles In M6
The same thread size in the other ranges we stock, so the head profile and the drive can be chosen for the joint.
| Range | Head | Drive | Head size | Lengths |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Socket Head Cap Screws | Cylindrical cap head | Torx T30 | Head 10 mm dia, 6 mm high | 10–95 mm |
| Saucer Head Screws | Low profile saucer head with a flanged bearing face | Torx T30 | Head 14 mm dia, 5 mm high | 12–90 mm |
| Hex Flange Head Bolts | Hexagon head with an integral flange | Hex 8 mm | Flange 11 mm, hex 8 mm | 10–90 mm |
Use Guide
Fitting This Fastener
Use anti seize on the threads
Titanium galls readily against titanium and against stainless. A dry film or copper free anti seize on the thread and under the head keeps the torque to tension relationship predictable and lets the joint be broken later.
Torque to a titanium figure not a steel figure
Do not carry over a torque value from a steel or stainless fastener of the same size. The friction behaviour is different and the safe clamp load has to be set for the alloy and for the lubricant actually used.
Seat the drive fully before applying load
Push the Torx key or the socket right to the bottom of the recess before turning. A partly seated drive concentrates load on the top edge of the recess.
Watch galvanic pairings
Titanium is a noble metal. Where it is bolted directly to aluminium or magnesium in a wet environment, isolate the joint or accept that the lighter metal will carry the corrosion.
Keep the bearing face clean and flat
A wide flange or saucer face only works if it lands on a flat clean surface. Swarf or paint under the head shifts the clamp load off centre.
