What EVT-106 Is
A heavy round chopping block built end grain, so the cut face presents the ends of the fibres rather than their sides. The knife edge parts the fibres and they close again, which is why end grain boards stay smoother for longer and take less edge off a knife than a face grain board of the same material.
Why Buyers Choose This Code
- End grain construction is kinder to a knife edge than face grain
- Cut marks close rather than staying open as scores
- Weight keeps the board still on the worktop during heavy chopping
- The block pattern is a genuine visual feature, not a printed effect
Application Scenarios
- Premium tiers in a kitchen preparation range
- Serving and presentation as well as chopping
- Gift and wedding list ranges
- Cookshops and specialist kitchen retail
Who It Is For
- Retailers who need a premium board above their opening price point
- Gift and wedding list buyers
- Cookshops selling to people who care about knives
- Importers building a bamboo range with a top tier
Problems It Solves
- Boards that score deeply and trap food in the cuts
- Light boards that slide on the worktop during heavy work
- Bamboo ranges with no product above the opening price
- Face grain boards that blunt knives faster than the customer expects

EVT-106 Against The Alternatives
| Alternative | How it compares |
|---|---|
| A face grain board | Face grain is cheaper and lighter and scores more. End grain closes after the cut, which is the whole point of the construction. |
| The EVT-107 board set | The set separates tasks and stores upright. This block is the one heavy board for serious chopping. |
Getting The Best Out Of It
- Oil a new end grain board several times before first use
- Never soak or dishwasher an end grain board; it will come apart
- Dry flat and on both faces so it does not cup
- Re-oil monthly, more often if the board looks dry
EVT-106 Questions
Why is end grain better for knives?
The edge parts the fibre ends and they close again, so the board scores less and takes less edge off the knife.
What diameter is available?
Diameter and thickness are specified per order. Tell us the price point and we will advise what size reaches it.
Does it need more care than a normal board?
Yes. End grain absorbs more oil and must never be soaked. That is worth saying on the packaging.
Can it be made rectangular?
Yes. The construction is the same; only the machining changes.
