Foam density is the whole product

Almost every complaint about a foam fitness product comes back to density. A low density EVA brick dents under a knee within weeks. A low density NBR mat compresses flat in the middle where a user kneels most often. A cheap EPP roller takes a permanent flat spot after a month of heavy use.

Density is not visible in a photograph and it is rarely on a quotation unless you ask. When you compare two quotations that look similar, the gap is usually here. Ask for density to be written on the specification and ask for it to be checked on incoming material, not on the finished item where it is too late.

Colour is compounded, not painted

On NBR, EVA and PVC, colour goes into the material rather than onto it. That is good news for durability and it means a custom colour is far cheaper than customers expect. It also means the minimum quantity for a colour is set by the compounding batch, not by the moulding run, so ask about the colour minimum separately from the item minimum.

Grip is a print, and prints wear

Silicone grip on yoga socks and grip patterns on mats are printed processes. A sock that grips beautifully on day one and slips after ten washes has a print bonding problem, not a design problem. Ask for a washed sample rather than a fresh one, and specify the wash cycle count on the approval.

Volume, not weight, sets your shipping cost

Mats and rollers are the two lightest, bulkiest items most fitness ranges carry. On a full container the cost per unit is decided by cubic metres, so ask early about roll diameter, nesting and whether the carry bag ships flat or fitted. A packing change on a roller can move the landed cost more than a price negotiation on the roller itself.
