Quality Control Checklist for Soft Goods and Sewn Products

Incoming material

Fabric weight against the specification, not against the last delivery. Weight drift is the most common silent substitution in sewn goods and it changes how the finished product feels in the hand.

Hardware: zip brand and gauge, hanger gauge, buckle and eyelet material. Hardware is where cost is quietly removed, and it is the first thing to fail in use.

First output

Compare the first pieces off the line to the sealed retained sample, not to the previous shipment. Comparing to the last shipment lets quality drift one small step at a time until the product no longer resembles what you approved.

Check dimensions on the actual piece. Pattern shrinkage between sample and bulk is normal and needs to be caught here rather than at final inspection.

In-line

Stitch density and bar-tacking at every load point: handles, straps, hanging bars, pocket corners. On organizers and stroller caddies this is the difference between a product that lasts a year and one that fails in a month.

Welded seams on PVC and coated fabrics checked for continuity, not just appearance.

Pre-packing and final

• Function check on anything that closes, hangs or adjusts: zips run, hangers hold loaded weight, straps adjust across the full range.
• Cosmetic check under consistent light, with an agreed defect standard, so both sides mean the same thing by a minor defect.
• Carton contents, labelling and barcode scan verified before sealing, because relabelling in a depot is expensive and entirely preventable.
