Packing and Container Loading for Chair Imports

Knock-down packing is the default

Chairs ship knock-down in export cartons: back, seat, base, gas lift, castors and arms packed flat with an assembly instruction. Assembled chairs would waste most of the container on air. The trade-off is that your customer or your warehouse assembles them, so the instruction sheet is part of the product.

Back height drives carton volume

A high back executive chair carton is substantially bulkier than a mid back task chair carton. When a container is over, moving part of the order from high back to mid back models is often a cheaper fix than cutting quantities.

Ask for carton data at quotation

Carton dimensions, gross and net weight, and pieces per 20ft and 40ft container. With those you can compare two suppliers on landed cost rather than on unit price, which is the only comparison that decides whether the order makes money.

Match the carton to the channel

Palletised container freight and parcel delivery are different problems. Marketplace sellers who ship single chairs to end customers need heavier board and better internal protection than a wholesaler moving pallets into a warehouse.
