Wired Or Battery Which GPS Tracker Fits The Job

The decision is not about features. It is about whether the asset has power, who is doing the install and how long the device must last unattended.

Start with the power supply

If the asset has an ignition and a 12V or 24V supply, a wired device removes the recharge problem entirely and gains ACC, door and fuel inputs. R-18 accepts 8-90V, which covers motorcycles through to trucks.

Count the install time

Wiring a fleet device takes an installer and vehicle downtime. A magnet mounted G25 goes on in seconds, which is why rental and container work tends towards battery devices even where power exists.

Size the runtime honestly

G25 gives 30, 50 or 100 days of standby according to the battery version, and the case gets deeper as the battery grows, from 26 mm to 46 mm. If the service interval is longer than the runtime, go solar with G07E, which runs 120 days even with no sunshine.

What you lose with battery

No ignition signal, no door status, no fuel sensor, no immobiliser. If the contract requires driver ID or engine control, the device has to be wired.

The hybrid answer

Many fleets end up running both: wired units in the powered vehicles and magnet trackers on trailers, containers and plant, feeding the same platform.
