Extraction through the dipstick tube lets an oil change happen on a driveway. The method matters more than the pump.
The 12v Oil Extractor is rated at approximately 1 litre in 3 minutes with motor oil at 40 to 60 degrees, and 3 litres in 3 minutes on diesel or heating oil. Cold oil moves far more slowly. Run the engine briefly, then let it stand before extracting.
The unit runs from a 12V supply with a draw of about 5A and is supplied with two battery clamps. Connect with the switch off, then feed the 120cm inlet hose down the dipstick tube until it reaches the bottom of the sump.
This pump is supplied for oil and diesel. It must never be used for petrol. For brake fluid and other corrosive fluids use the manual 200cc Extraction and Fill Pump, which is made from composite plastic rated for those fluids.
Gearbox and differential ports are often above the fill level, which is why a manual pump with a 1.5 litre reservoir and an end cap is the practical tool for filling. Purge the hose of the old grade before drawing a new one.
Fit the end cap before carrying the pump to the waste container so it does not drip across a driveway. Rinse any pump used with brake fluid rather than leaving the seals wet.
