How the Apparel Sampling Process Actually Works

Start from an object, not a description

A reference garment or a tech pack gives the sample room something to measure. A description gives it something to interpret, and interpretation is what costs a round.

The first round is about construction

Fit, seam layout, trims and construction come first. Colour on a first sample is usually whatever fabric was available, and reading it as a colour submission wastes the round.

Write comments as measurements

The factory's stated process is to check all comments on the samples and answer them on the next round. Comments written as measurements and photographs get answered; comments written as adjectives get interpreted.

Allow one to two weeks a round

That is the published sampling time. Two or three rounds is normal for a new style, fewer when a reference garment was supplied.

Approve the fit and the grading separately

A sample approved in one size is not a range approved. The technical team grades to the brand's own size chart before bulk.
