Marble or Granite Which One Fits Your Project
What the two stones actually are
Marble is a recrystallised carbonate rock and granite is an igneous rock built from quartz, feldspar and mica. That difference is the reason they behave differently on site: marble is softer and reacts to acids, granite is harder and more resistant to weather and abrasion.
Where marble earns its place
Marble is specified when the surface is seen more than it is used: feature walls, lobby floors, vanity tops, bathrooms and carved work. The veining is the point, and every slab is different.
Where granite earns its place
Granite goes where the surface takes weather, traffic or heat. Facade cladding, paving, stair treads, kitchen counters and memorials are all granite territory.
How to decide
Ask what the surface has to survive before you ask what it should look like. If the answer includes rain, footfall or acidic cleaning, start with granite and treat marble as the decorative layer.
