Why two products with the same cell size deliver different runtime
Capacity Is Not Runtime
Two products with a 450 mAh cell can deliver very different playback times. Runtime is set by the cell, the amplifier efficiency, the Bluetooth platform's power management and the volume at which the figure is measured. That last one is where most published numbers become unreliable.
State The Measurement Condition
Our headphone specifications publish playback time at 70 % volume: approximately 45+ hours on the 400 mAh model and approximately 50+ hours on the 450 mAh model, with standby of about 100 hours and a charging time of about 1.5 hours. Quoting the volume makes the figure checkable, which is the point of a specification.
Cell Sorting Is Where Consistency Comes From
A batch of cells is not uniform. We run battery capacity sorting cabinets so that cells are graded before assembly rather than fitted at random. Without sorting, a production run delivers a spread of runtimes and the low end of that spread becomes your review problem.
Aging Finds The Failures That Ship
Assembled units run on aging racks before they leave. Early-life failures are the most expensive kind, because they arrive at the customer rather than at the line. Aging moves those failures forward into the factory.
Charging Behaviour Is Tested Separately
Our PD test station checks charging behaviour and function. Fast charging on the earbud battery, as used on our ENC models, only helps if the charge control behaves across the full temperature and voltage range it will actually see.
