What an IP number tells you
IP67 means dust tight and able to withstand temporary immersion. On a vehicle that matters less for rain than for the pressure washer, the road spray and the wash bay, which are what actually get inside a housing. Check the rating on the camera body and then check the connector, because a sealed camera on an unsealed joint is still an unsealed system.
Infrared night vision in practice
Infrared LEDs light the scene in a wavelength the sensor sees and the eye does not. Two numbers describe them: the wavelength and the count. 940nm LEDs give no visible red glow, which is preferred where a visible light source would be a distraction; 850nm is brighter for the same power but shows a faint red point. More LEDs give more reach, and reach beyond a few metres matters much less on a reversing camera than on a fixed installation.
Where night vision quietly fails
Behind glass, because the infrared reflects straight back into the lens. Against a wet road, because water absorbs the light and the picture goes dark past a short distance. And on a dirty lens, which is the most common cause of all and the cheapest to fix.
Housing and mounting
Metal housings hold up better than plastic on outdoor mounting positions, and a bracket that lets you set the angle once and lock it saves a second visit. On indoor fixed sites a vandal resistant dome puts the lens behind a cover that is not easily knocked out of alignment.
