Choosing between bulk, poly bag and retail blister, and getting the packing decision made before it starts moving the landed cost.
On a low-value accessory the packing routinely costs more than anyone budgeted, and it is the last thing most buyers specify. A card reader in a printed retail box and the same reader in a bulk carton are the same product with very different landed costs, different shipping volumes and different minimum quantities. It is worth deciding first.

Decide where the product will actually be sold
Retail packaging is ordered for products that ship in a bundle
A shelf product needs a hanging blister or a printed box. A bundle component, a giveaway or a corporate issue does not, and poly bag or bulk packing removes cost and freight volume from the order.
Get the dimension drawing before the artwork
Artwork is designed against a product photograph
Ask for the drawing first. This is the single most common cause of reprinted packaging on an accessory programme.
Price the packing as part of the unit cost
The unit price is compared without the packing in it
Compare landed cost per unit including packing, not the product price. On small accessories a blister card can move the comparison entirely.
Match the MOQ to the packing, not the product
A minimum quantity is assumed to be a factory limit
Printed packaging usually sets the real minimum, because print runs have their own economics. Bulk and poly bag orders often start much lower.
Plan the carton for the destination
Cartons arrive at the wrong count for the retailer's system
Carton count, barcode placement and mixed-SKU handling are all decided before production. Mixed-SKU cartons are available where a range is being trialled.
