Solution

Custom and Non Standard Insulator Design

When no published class fits the structure we design the insulator around the duty instead of forcing the nearest catalogue part into the drawing.

Why It Matters

The Problem This Addresses

Refurbishment projects, unusual tower geometry and legacy substation layouts routinely need a profile that is not in any catalogue. Substituting the nearest standard part means either drilling new holes in the structure or accepting a mechanical or leakage margin nobody signed off.

Process

How It Works Stage by Stage

  1. Requirement Review

The problem: The enquiry arrives as a photograph or a worn sample rather than a drawing
How we handle it: Our engineers work from the mounting interface, the mechanical duty and the system voltage to establish what the part actually has to do

  2. Standard Check

The problem: A non standard request is sometimes a standard part under a different name
How we handle it: We check the requirement against GB ANSI BS DIN AS and IEC standard designs first, because a standard part is faster and cheaper for you

  3. Design

The problem: Shed profile creepage and cap geometry all interact
How we handle it: We develop the porcelain profile and the metal fitting together so the leakage distance and mechanical rating are met in one design

  4. Review

The problem: A design that cannot be verified cannot be tendered
How we handle it: We agree the dimensions and the rated values with you in writing before anything is made

  5. Manufacture

The problem: One off parts drift from the agreed design
How we handle it: The part is produced under the same ISO 9001:2008 certified quality system as our catalogue range

Custom and Non Standard Insulator Design FAQ

Can you work from a sample instead of a drawing

Yes. Send photographs with a scale reference and the mounting dimensions, plus the system voltage and the mechanical duty. Our engineers are available to help develop an insulator for your particular application.

Do you charge for the design work

That depends on the complexity and the quantity. Email [email protected] with the requirement and we will tell you before you commit.

What standards can the custom part be referenced to

GB, ANSI, BS, DIN, AS and IEC standard designs, or a fully non standard design where none of those fit.

What voltage range can you design for

Our production technology supports insulator designs up to 500kV AC and 400kV DC system voltages.

Start With Your Requirement Not Our Catalogue

Send the drawing, the sample photograph or the tender schedule. We will tell you what maps to a standard class and what needs designing.
