What an OCS Scope Certificate Covers
The difference between a scope certificate and a transaction certificate, and what a buyer should collect.
A scope certificate describes a company
The Organic Content Standard certifies that a company has been inspected and operates a system for handling certified organic material. Our scope certificate, No. EGL/163881/1180055/1, is issued by ECOCERT Greenlife SAS to Dalian Y&D Trading Co., Ltd. under OCS version 2.0, licence number 163881, and it lists the product categories and material compositions covered.
A transaction certificate describes a shipment
The scope certificate does not prove that any particular delivery contained certified material. That is what a transaction certificate does, issued against a specific shipment. Retail compliance teams normally want both, and asking for the transaction certificate late is the usual cause of delay.
Label grades follow content
The certificate appendix distinguishes label grades. Constructions listed as made with organic materials sit at one content threshold; constructions at 95 to 100 percent organic cotton are listed under the Organic Textiles grade. The label you may legally use follows the composition, not the intention.
Check the validity date
Scope certificates are issued for a cycle and expire. The copy published on this site was issued on 15 March 2021 with validity to 31 December 2021. Ask any supplier, including us, for the current cycle before you file a certificate against a live order.

Is a scope certificate enough for retail compliance?
Usually not on its own. Most retailers ask for a transaction certificate covering the shipment as well.
What is covered by the Y&D certificate?
Women's apparel, category PC0002, in the material compositions listed in the certificate appendix, including organic cotton blends with hemp, elastane, recycled polyester and recycled nylon.
