Why Surface Finish Matters in Sculpture Design
The finish is not just about appearance. It affects how the sculpture interacts with light, weather, and touch. Each finish changes how the steel reflects or absorbs light, how fingerprints show, and how it ages in different environments. We apply finishes after the shape is confirmed and the model is approved.
Mirror Polished for Reflection and Clarity
Mirror polished finishes create a clear, reflective surface that shows the surrounding environment. This works well for indoor spaces like hotel lobbies and real estate sales departments where the sculpture becomes part of the visual scene. It also enhances the shape of spheres and wall panels by emphasizing their form.
Raw Finish for Industrial Texture
The raw finish preserves the natural look of the steel after cutting and welding. It shows the material's original texture and is suitable for modern abstract sculptures where a tactile, unpolished feel is desired. It does not require additional treatment beyond grinding welds.
Brushed Finish for Subtle Light Play
Brushed finish adds fine directional lines that catch light in a soft, even way. It reduces glare and hides minor surface marks. It is often used on wall panels and large sculptures where a consistent, non-reflective surface is preferred, especially in high-traffic areas.
Sandblasted Finish for Matte and Uniform Appearance
Sandblasting creates a uniform matte surface that diffuses light evenly. It hides fingerprints and minor scratches. This finish is common on outdoor sculptures where a low-reflective surface is needed, especially in coastal or high-exposure areas.
Electroplated Finish for Decorative Effects
Electroplated finishes are used on wall panels to create a silver mirror effect with moving light and shadow. The coating sits on top of the steel and is not part of the base material. It requires special handling and is not recommended for exposed outdoor sites without additional protection.
Spray Painting for Custom Colour
Spray painting allows custom colours to be applied to the steel surface. The paint is applied after the shape and welds are finished. It is used for wall panels and decorative elements where a specific colour is needed. The paint may require touch-ups over time in outdoor settings.
