Introduction
A MoSi2 Heater, or molybdenum disilicide heating element, is a high-temperature resistance heating device primarily made from the ceramic material molybdenum disilicide (MoSi2). These elements are well-suited for applications that require extremely high temperatures and are commonly used in various industrial and laboratory settings.
High-Temperature Resistance
Capable of operating at temperatures up to 1800°C (3272°F) in oxidizing atmospheres.
Oxidation Resistance
When heated in an oxidizing atmosphere, MoSi₂ forms a protective layer of silicon dioxide (SiO₂) on its surface, which prevents further oxidation of the element.
Electrical Conductivity
MoSi₂ is a good electrical conductor, which is crucial for its function as a heating element.
Durability
These elements have a long service life due to their high resistance to oxidation and chemical attack.
Thermal Shock Resistance
Able to withstand rapid temperature changes without cracking.
I Shape
Straight rod elements.
U Shape
Commonly used, suitable for various industrial and laboratory furnaces.
M Shape
Designed for specific heating configurations.
L Shape
Used in specialized applications.
M1700 Type
Available in diameters such as 3/6, 4/9, 6/12, 9/18, 12/24 mm.
M1800 Type
Available in the same diameters as M1700 but can withstand higher temperatures.
Industrial Furnaces
Used in heat treatment processes, sintering, melting, and annealing.
Glass and Ceramic Manufacturing
Employed in the production of glass and ceramics, which require high and consistent temperatures.
Laboratory Equipment
Utilized in high-temperature laboratory furnaces for research and testing.
Semiconductor Industry
Used in processes that demand precise temperature control, such as diffusion and oxidation.
Environment
Best suited for use in air or inert gas environments. Active gases like hydrogen, chlorine, and sulfur dioxide can damage the element.
Temperature Range
Avoid prolonged use in the 400-700°C range to prevent oxidation and damage.
Handling
MoSi₂ elements are brittle at room temperature and should be handled carefully. Avoid rapid heating and cooling to prevent breakage.
Installation
Typically installed vertically to avoid mechanical stress. Connection wires should allow for thermal expansion.

Ordering Mosi2 Heater
What is Mosi2 Heater typically used for?
A MoSi2 Heater, or molybdenum disilicide heating element, is a high-temperature resistance heating device primarily made from the ceramic material molybdenum disilicide (MoSi2). These elements are well-suited for applications that require extremely high temper
Can Mosi2 Heater be customised for our process?
Yes. Chamber or tube size, temperature profile, atmosphere, gas path, control system and data recording can all be adapted. Send us your process conditions and sample details and our engineers work out a configuration with you.
How quickly can Mosi2 Heater be shipped?
Most standard ZYLAB models are held in stock. After testing and packing we normally ship Mosi2 Heater within 3 to 7 days. Customised builds are scheduled after the drawing is confirmed, and we give you the date in writing before the order is placed.
How is Mosi2 Heater packed for export?
Packing is chosen for the safety of the machine against freight cost, typically a plywood or wooden crate with internal padding and vacuum-sealed accessories. Export documents such as Form A, Form E and Form F can be issued to help you save duty.
Can you supply items that are not on this page?
Yes. We have access to the complete lines of most of our suppliers and build custom equipment in our own factory, so tell us what the experiment needs and we will source or make it.
