Introduction

The ceramic hanging firing rack is a specialized tool used in ceramic kilns for firing pottery or ceramic items.

It is made of heat-resistant materials and used with tungsten wire, dedicated to hanging or stringing some ceramic small ornaments and other ceramic small objects.

Hanging firing is a glaze firing technique designed to meet special requirements, aimed at preventing unfinished pieces from sticking to the kiln shelf during glaze firing.

Hanging firing requires pre-drilling holes in the clay blanks for easy hanging of the glaze pieces. Auxiliary tools for hanging glaze pieces include hanging firing racks, tungsten wire, hanging firing rods, kiln stilts, and shelves.

Hanging Firing Methods

1. Choose appropriately sized kiln stilts and place the assembled rack on top of them. Thread the tungsten wire or hanging firing rod through the pieces, then place the threaded pieces on the rack according to the spacing of the rack. Proceed to firing in the kiln.

2. Stand the assembled rack upright, thread the bent tungsten wire through the pieces, and then hang them on the rack. Proceed to firing in the kiln.

3. Place the assembled rack on appropriately sized kiln stilts, thread the bent tungsten wire through the pieces, and then hang them on the rack. Proceed to firing in the kiln.

Precautions for Using Hanging Firing Racks

1. After glazing the pieces, clean the glaze around the holes to prevent the pieces from sticking to the tungsten wire or hanging firing rod.

2. Avoid overloading the pieces. If the fired pieces are relatively heavy and the tungsten wire is thin, the wire may bend during hanging firing, causing the bottom of the piece to stick to the shelf and damage it.

3. Do not put too many glazed pieces on each tungsten wire to avoid contact between the bottom of the pieces and the shelf due to bending of the wire during firing.

4. Maintain a certain distance between the pieces placed on the rack to prevent them from sticking to each other.

5. Do not place the tungsten wire directly between two kiln stilts. After high-temperature firing, the tungsten wire may sink down along with the glaze, resulting in a failed firing.
