How A Spun Concrete Pole Is Produced Step By Step

Every stage of the pole process feeds the next one. This guide follows a pole from the mixing station to the stock yard and explains what decides the cycle time at each step.

The Process In Order

Concrete mixing, rebar and cage making, clamping, pumping, tensioning, spinning, steam curing, demoulding and stocking. On an automatic line the moulds move between these stations on a chain conveyor rather than by crane and hand.

Cage Making Sets The Pace Early

The cage is welded from prestressed bar and spiral wire before the mould is closed. If the bar arrives in inconsistent shape or length, the welding station becomes the constraint for the whole line, which is why bar shape and cut length are agreed with the cage jig in mind.

Tensioning And Spinning Decide The Wall

After clamping and pumping, the bars are tensioned and the mould is spun. Spinning compacts the concrete against the mould wall and forms the hollow section. These stations are where worker protection matters most, and where conveyor handling removes people from the hazard.

Curing And Demoulding

Steam curing brings the pole to demoulding strength on a schedule the conveyor can hold. The mould returns to the start of the loop and the pole moves to stocking.

Why Automation Changes The Economics

An automatic chain conveyor line holds a stable production cycle and runs with about 30 percent of the workers a traditional labour intensive line needs. Over the life of a plant that is a different cost per pole, not only a faster one.

FAQ

Reader Questions

How long does one pole cycle take?
Cycle time depends on the pole section, the curing schedule and the line configuration, so it is fixed during line design rather than quoted from a catalogue.
What output can an automatic line reach?
Delivered Zino lines run from 50 poles per shift up to 600 poles or piles per shift.
