Most custom cue enquiries arrive as a photograph and a wish. What turns one into a product is the set of numbers behind it: tip diameter, joint format, forearm wood, wrap and finish. These are the stages that pin those down.
Custom Cue Development In 6 Steps
Define the numbers
A cue described as professional cannot be quoted.
Tip diameter, joint format, length and weight band are stated first. Every product page on this site shows the format those answers take.
Choose the materials
Two cues that look identical can be built from entirely different forearms.
Maple, ash, purpleheart, fibreglass and carbon composite all appear in the published range, and each behaves differently under the same stroke.
Decide the decoration
Printed film photographed as a wrap is the most common disappointment in cue sourcing.
Wrap, inlay, water-mark finish and pattern work are specified as what they physically are, not as what they resemble in a photograph.
Sample
A production order is an expensive first physical test.
A sample is produced and played before the run. The source FAQ offers samples before the order for exactly this reason.
Lock the specification
A cue that cannot be reordered identically is a one-off, not a product.
The approved sample becomes the reference, and reorders are quoted against it rather than against a photograph.
Produce and inspect
Variation inside a batch shows up as customer returns.
Full QC before shipment, with refund or replacement where quality is at fault.
