What Dimming From the Fixture Means
In a conventional installation the dimmer sits on the wall and needs its own wiring back to the fixture. In the SD2126 pendant and the SL2312 floor lights the control is inside the fixture, so the circuit only has to be a plain switched live.

Where It Saves Real Money
Retrofit work. When a finished ceiling or a finished wall would have to be opened to run dimming cable, the cost of opening and making good is usually higher than the difference in fixture price. That is the case to check first.
Where It Is Not Worth It
Corridors, back of house and any space on a lighting control system already. If a control system is being installed anyway, a standard dimmable driver on that system is the simpler answer.
The SL2312 Floor Lights Use a Top Button
On the SL2312 uprights the control is a single button on the top of the head: press for on and off, hold to dim. In a hotel room that removes the cord switch a guest has to find in the dark.

Specify It Correctly
State on the purchase order that the fixture is the dimming-enabled version and confirm that the circuit is a plain switched live. Do not put a wall dimmer in front of it.
