Sizing a Classroom Chalkboard Wall
Classroom boards fail for two reasons: the wall is too short for the teaching, or the board was made in one piece when it should have been two.
The Three Metre Rule
A chalkboard run longer than three metres is built as two chalkboards working together rather than one panel. Under three metres it is made as a single board. Knowing this before you measure changes how you plan a wall, because the joint position is a design decision rather than an accident.
Buying Vertical Space Instead Of Horizontal
Where the wall is short but tall, a rise and fall board splits the writing area into two panels that slide vertically. The lecturer fills the upper panel, drops it down and keeps writing, so a long derivation stays visible.
Sharing The Wall With a Projector
Where a projector shares the front wall, a push pull system solves both problems at once: two or three sliding panels, with a matt projection panel in the centre and chalkboard panels either side.
When The Wall Is Simply Too Narrow
A three in one folded board opens to roughly three times the width of its centre panel and folds flat again. It is the answer for classrooms whose front wall carries a door or a window.
