Why The Material Line Matters On A Product Page

Every item in this catalogue states its material. That is deliberate. A buyer who knows an item is oxford fabric rather than unspecified fabric can predict how it will behave on a shelf and in a customer's washing machine.

The Fabrics You Will See Most

PolyesterThe base of most apparel and webbing here. Holds colour and shape, dries fast.
NylonUsed on load bearing webbing such as leads and harness straps.
Oxford fabricHeavier woven shell used on carriers, bags and harder wearing goods.
Mesh fabricBreathable panel on vest harnesses and carriers where airflow matters.
Polar fleeceWarm layer in winter apparel, with some give across sizes.
PP cottonThe filling in plush toys and soft beds.
ModalSoft cellulose fibre used where the fabric sits against skin, such as recovery suits.
SiliconeUsed on collapsible and food contact style items such as feeding bags and bowls.

Hardware Is Part Of The Material Spec

On collars, leads and harnesses the metal matters as much as the fabric. Zinc alloy buckles, D rings and leash rings appear across the range where the part carries load. Hardware is checked on our own salt-spraying tester, which is the test that predicts whether a buckle survives a wet winter.

  • Zinc alloy D ring or leash ring on load bearing points
  • PP buckle where the closure does not carry pulling load
  • Reflective stripe built into several walking items rather than sold as an upgrade

What Material Does Not Tell You

A material name is a starting point, not a guarantee. Two polyester coats can behave very differently depending on weave and finish. That is why we publish the material and the measurements and let the sample settle the rest, which is what a 10 piece minimum is for.

FAQ

Related Questions

Do you publish the material for every item?
Yes, for effectively the whole catalogue. Where a product record does not state a material, the product page leaves the row out rather than filling it with a guess.
Can we change the fabric on a catalogue item?
Our production developing team designs and customises to a customer's request. Send the item and the fabric you want and we will confirm whether our line runs it.
How do you check hardware quality?
Metal hardware is checked on a salt-spraying tester in our own test room. That is the corrosion check behind buckles, D rings and clips.

Ask What An Item Is Actually Made Of
