The Certification File A Lithium Accessory Needs

Three different questions

The certification list on a power bank answers three unrelated questions. Is the product safe to use? Is it safe to transport? Is it allowed to be sold in this market? Buyers routinely treat the list as one thing and then discover that having UN38.3 does not help them list a product in a market that requires CCC.

Product safety: IEC62368-1 and UL2056

IEC62368-1 is the modern safety standard for audio, video and information technology equipment, and it has replaced the older standards most accessory buyers still name. UL2056 is specific to power banks. Together they answer the first question: the product itself has been evaluated against a recognised safety standard.

Transport: UN38.3 and MSDS

UN38.3 is a series of tests a lithium cell or battery must pass before it can be transported, covering altitude, thermal cycling, vibration, shock, short circuit and more. The MSDS supports the shipment documentation. These answer the second question and are what a freight forwarder asks for. They say nothing about whether you may sell the product in a given country.

Market access: CE, FCC, CCC and ROHS

CE covers the European market, with CE RED applying specifically to radio equipment, which a wireless charger is. FCC covers the United States, with FCC SDOC being one declaration route. CCC is required in China. ROHS restricts hazardous substances. These answer the third question, and they are the ones that decide whether a listing goes live.

How to read the lists on this site

Each product page publishes the certification list exactly as the factory specification gives it. The KIKOO Mag Qi2.2 25W pack has the longest: Qi2.2, CCC, CE RED EMC, FCC, FCC SDOC, ROHS, MSDS, IEC62368-1, UL2056 and UN38.3. Where a page instead says a certification is confirmed per order, that means the source specification does not publish one, and we will answer in writing rather than fill the gap.
