What the height, circumference and weight figures on a product page mean, and how to match them to your wigs and display space.
Two numbers decide whether a head works for you: overall height and head circumference. They are not the same thing and buyers mix them up constantly.
Circumference is measured around the head and is what has to match your wig cap. Across our PVC range it runs from 19 to 22 inch, with 20 and 20.5 inch being the most common. Canvas block and PU heads are supplied at 21 to 25 inch to cover a wider range of caps. If a wig is loose or straining on a head, circumference is the figure to check.
Height is the overall figure from the base to the top of the head, and across our range it runs from about 10 inch to 25 inch. A short head of 10 to 14 inch is a compact display piece. A 15 to 18 inch head is the standard shelf and counter size. A 21 to 25 inch long-neck bust lets a long wig hang without bunching at the shoulder, which is why it is the usual choice for photography and window work.
Our heads run from around 1 kg to 2.25 kg. Heavier heads are more stable in a window or under studio lights. Lighter PU and small PVC heads are easier to carry around a training room.
A 25 inch bust with a 20.5 inch circumference is a tall neck with a standard-fitting head — the long line is in the neck, not the skull. Reading the two numbers together is the only way to picture the head correctly from a listing.
