Display head or working block, size, skin tone, make-up and neck length — the decisions to make before you place an order.
Most buying mistakes with mannequin heads come from picking on price and photo alone. Five decisions settle the choice.
A display head sits in a window or in front of a camera and never gets pinned. A working block is pinned into all day by a wig maker. They are different products and a PVC display head will not survive being ventilated on. If you need both, order both — we make both.
Women's heads, men's heads and faceless abstract forms all photograph differently under the same wig. A men's hairpiece on a female head reads wrong to anyone in the trade, which is why our male range has its own jaw, brow and neck line.
Height across our PVC range runs from about 10 inch to 25 inch, and head circumference from 19 to 22 inch. A tall bust of 21 to 25 inch shows a long wig properly; a compact head of 14 to 17 inch suits counter and shelf display. Canvas block and PU heads are supplied at 21 to 25 inch circumference to cover different cap sizes.
Flesh is the most ordered tone, followed by brown, white and greyish white, and we also produce blue, cyan, green and other finishes. The tone should sit against the hair colours you actually sell. Make-up style is applied by hand, so it can be matched to your brand instead of picked from stock.
Hand-applied make-up is where suppliers usually fail on the second order. Ask how make-up consistency is controlled between batches, and whether the supplier owns the mould. We cut our own copper moulds and finish in house, so a repeat order matches the first.
