Fitting A Trolling Motor To The Transom
Setting up the 7-level lock bracket, squaring the motor to the transom and getting the shaft depth right first time.

Every Hightime series clamps to the transom on a 7-level lock bracket, reinforced nylon on the brush series and aluminium on the brushless series. Fitting takes a few minutes and the setup is the same across the range.
Before You Start
- Load the boat as it will be used, with the battery in place
- Check the transom is sound and thick enough for the clamp jaws to bite
- Have the battery leads routed but disconnected
Fitting Sequence
Position The Bracket
Sit the bracket over the transom, centred or offset to the side the operator will steer from, with the shaft vertical.
Tighten Evenly
Bring both clamp screws up finger tight, check the shaft is square to the transom, then tighten each screw in turn.
Set Shaft Depth
Release the collar and drop the shaft until the propeller is fully submerged with margin for chop, then lock it.
Connect And Test
Connect the battery observing polarity, start on the lowest speed and check for vibration before you leave the mooring.
Getting The Angle Right
The shaft should be vertical when the boat is at rest and loaded. If the motor is tilted back, the propeller pushes down instead of forward and the bow lifts; tilted forward and the lower unit runs deep. The adjustable head on the DT, FT, P and S Series lets you fine tune the tiller angle separately from the shaft.
Cable Routing
Route the battery cable so it cannot chafe on the transom edge or foul the tiller when the motor is steered lock to lock. Leave enough slack for the full steering arc and for the motor to be tilted up for launching and recovery.
Check After The First Hour
- Re-check the clamp screws; a new installation settles
- Confirm nothing has loosened at the shaft collar
- Check terminal temperature after a run at higher power; warm terminals mean undersized cable or a loose joint
