Saltwater Care And Maintenance

A rinse, inspection and storage routine that gets the most out of the anti-corrosion system fitted to every Hightime series.

Every Hightime series carries an anti-corrosion system for seawater or saltwater use. That system buys you time; it does not remove the need for a routine. Salt left on a motor between sessions is what kills brackets, fasteners and connectors.

After Every Saltwater Session

  1. Rinse the whole motor with fresh water, including the bracket, the clamp screws and the shaft collar
  2. Run fresh water over the lower unit and around the propeller hub
  3. Wipe the tiller head and cable entry dry rather than leaving them wet
  4. Disconnect the battery leads and rinse the terminals if they were splashed

Weekly During The Season

  • Remove the propeller and clear line and weed from behind the hub
  • Check the propeller nut and the shear pin or drive hardware for wear
  • Look over the 7-level bracket for salt crust and work the clamp screws so they do not seize
  • Inspect the cable for chafe where it passes the transom

End Of Season Storage

  • Rinse thoroughly, dry completely and store the motor indoors, off the ground and out of direct sun
  • Store the shaft vertical or fully supported so it is not left bent over an edge
  • Charge the battery fully and keep it topped up through storage; a flat lead acid battery sulphates
  • Leave the tiller extended rather than compressed so the seals are not held under load

What The Warranty Covers

Two years manufacturer warranty applies to every Hightime series. Corrosion from salt left on the motor between sessions is wear rather than a manufacturing defect, so the routine above is worth printing in the manual you supply to your customers. We can include it in an own brand manual as part of the OEM programme.

Brushless Runs Longer In Salt

If the customer is on salt water most days, the brushless series is the better recommendation: no brushes to wear, 5A rated current instead of 11A and a stainless steel shaft on the M and P Series.
