How To Read An Office Chair Specification Sheet
Six lines decide whether a chair survives three years of daily use. Here is what each one means and what to ask when it is missing.
The Mechanism Line
A swivel tilt mechanism rocks from a single pivot. A three position locking mechanism holds the back at set angles. A multi-functional mechanism adds independent seat and back adjustment, and a synchronised mechanism moves the two together at a fixed ratio. A self loading mechanism adjusts tension to the user's weight without a knob. These are different products at different prices, and a quotation that only says mechanism tells you nothing.
The Base Line
Base diameter decides stability. Across this range bases run 300MM, 320MM, 330MM and 340MM, in nylon, PP, aluminium, chromed and powder coated finishes. A 300MM nylon base under a high back executive chair is the wrong pairing, and it is visible in the specification before it is visible in a warranty claim.
The Gas Lift Line
Gas lift classes describe the cylinder's tested load and travel. Class 3 and Class 4 cylinders are used across this range, and the 41 series description states the gas lift carries an SGS certificate. If a quotation does not name a class, that is the line to question first.
The Caster Line
PU casters are quieter and kinder to hard floors. Nylon casters cost less and suit carpet. The difference shows up in the first month on a polished concrete office floor.
The Armrest Line
Fixed arms, height adjustable arms, 2D arms and 3D arms are four different assemblies. 3D arms appear on the 41 and Loke series. Fixed PP arms appear across the 2215 and 2205 families. Mixing them inside one order is possible but has to be stated per model.
The Packing Line
Carton size, pieces per carton and CBM decide your freight cost per chair. A task chair at two pieces per 0.240 CBM carton lands very differently from the same chair packed one per carton.
