Ammonia (NH₃) Refrigeration System

Ammonia (NH₃) Refrigeration System

Industrial NH₃ refrigeration plant. Best efficiency for large cold storage, ice rinks, and food processing >5000 m³.

  • Industrial · 100-2000HP
  • Ammonia (NH₃ / R717)
Product Overview

What The Ammonia (NH₃) Refrigeration System Does

Ammonia (R717) is the most thermodynamically efficient industrial refrigerant in service today — 15-20% lower energy consumption than HFC systems, zero ODP, and zero GWP. Howcool's NH₃ refrigeration plants are designed for the largest industrial applications: 5,000-50,000 m² cold storage, ice rinks, meat and fish processing plants, and dairy facilities.

Each plant is custom-engineered around the client's cooling load: screw compressor packs (Bitzer / Mycom / GEA / Vilter), evaporative condensers, NH₃ liquid receivers, low-pressure separators, oil management systems, and full PLC + safety instrumentation. Compliance with ASHRAE-15, IIAR-2/4/6 and local pressure-vessel codes.

Custom-engineered ammonia (R717) industrial refrigeration plants 100-2000HP. Screw compressor packs, evaporative condensers, full safety instrumentation per IIAR-2. Ideal for cold storage >5000 m², ice rinks, and food processing.

Key Benefits

Why Buyers Choose This Model

1

Highest Efficiency

NH₃ delivers 15-20% lower kWh/kW-refrigeration than any HFC alternative. Largest energy savings for facilities running 24/7.

2

Zero Environmental Impact

ODP = 0, GWP = 0. Not subject to F-Gas regulation or HFC phase-down rules. The only sustainable choice for industrial-scale cold storage.

3

Industrial Build Quality

Mycom, GEA, Bitzer, Vilter screw compressors. Carbon steel piping, evaporative condensers, full safety instrumentation per IIAR-2.

4

Custom-Engineered

Every plant designed around the specific load, ambient conditions, and site constraints. Howcool provides full engineering, P&ID, isometrics and commissioning.

Problems It Solves

Refrigeration Unit Failure Modes

Capacity that collapses in summer

High-ambient compressor selection with condenser heat rejection oversized for the site climate, not for a 35 degree lab rating.

Unplanned downtime

N+1 standby staging on parallel racks and multi-compressor packs keeps the room cold while a compressor is serviced.

Energy bills nobody budgeted

Multi-compressor and screw racks stage capacity to the real load instead of running one large machine at part load.
