Control valves on hydrocarbon service are the classic case for a positioner: tight packing, high differential pressure and hazardous-area wiring rules.
Hazardous-area builds
The YT-1000 range is offered in Ex dm IIB T5, Ex dm IIC T5 and Ex ia IIB T6, and the switch boxes in Exd II BT6 and Exd II CT6 with IP67 on the 410B.
High differential pressure
Where Δp across the valve exceeds 1 MPa, the positioner raises actuator output force by raising air supply pressure and cuts the stroke error from unbalance forces.
Tight gland packing
Packing pressed hard to stop external leakage raises stem friction; the positioner is what overcomes the resulting time lag.
Long signal runs
Beyond about 60 m between controller and actuator, the rotary positioner removes the transmission lag and restores valve response speed.
