Maintenance and Care Guide
Daily cleaning sealing and what to keep away from a natural stone surface.
Every day
- Rinse and wipe the bowl after use so nothing dries on the surface
- Use a mild neutral detergent and a soft cloth
- Deal with spills immediately rather than letting them sit
Never
- Acidic or citrus cleaners which etch polished surfaces
- Descaling products and bleach based cleaners
- Abrasive pads on polished stone
By material
| Marble | Wipe spills quickly use pH balanced cleaners and reseal every few years. Avoid acidic and citrus cleaners which etch polished marble. |

| Granite | Rinse and dry after use. Granite tolerates normal bathroom cleaners better than marble but sealing still helps. |
| Italy Marble | Treat as fine marble. Blot spills seal the surface and keep acidic products away from the rim. |
| Travertine | Seal after installation and clean with mild neutral detergent. |
| Sandstone | Sandstone is porous. Seal it after installation wipe spills immediately and use pH balanced cleaners only. |
| Limestone | Seal after installation and avoid acidic cleaners. |
| Onyx | Onyx is softer than marble. Keep it dry between uses and clean with a neutral product only. |
| River Cobble | Rinse after use. The natural face can simply be brushed clean. |
| Terrazzo | Clean with neutral detergent and reseal periodically. |
Sealing
Sealing is done after installation and repeated on the schedule your installer sets for the stone. A sealed surface resists absorption. It does not make the stone immune to acid so the cleaning rules still apply.
Repair
A stone tub can be re polished in place by a stone restoration contractor. Dull patches scratches and light etching are usually recoverable which is the main practical advantage over materials that have to be replaced.
